Introducing ISEC7 SPHERE: Digital Workplace Monitoring

IT in general and mobility in particular have accelerated rapidly over the last decade, driven by how quickly users adopted new mobile technology such as smartphones, tablets and wearables. These devices soon arrived at the workplace, because people wanted the same convenience at work that they already had in their personal lives.

That convenience has a price: the growing complexity of mobile IT infrastructure. Administrators and architects deal with a menagerie of management tools and their three-letter acronyms (MDM, EMM, MAM, MTD, UEM and more), a wide range of hardware, and business processes that have to adapt to mobile work while keeping users engaged and productive.

Mobile devices have become a central productivity tool. Monitoring and managing the mobility supply chain and its users across every console and portal, however, is not an easy task.

What ISEC7 SPHERE does

ISEC7 SPHERE is a monitoring and management suite for digital workplace and mobile device infrastructure, built for IT teams that run several platforms side by side. It covers the daily operation of your mobile infrastructure from one web-based console:

  • Centralized control saves time and reduces operational costs
  • Proactive alerting on points of failure helps prevent outages and keeps people productive
  • Identifying the point of failure in an alert shortens troubleshooting and reduces the cost of downtime
  • End-to-end visibility leads to a better user experience and fewer help desk calls
  • Continuous compliance monitoring reduces security risks
  • Detecting weak infrastructure components helps you plan future investments

Top use cases

The solution keeps evolving around our customers' needs. These are the use cases we see most often:

  • VIP user monitoring: fewer "my device is not working" calls from your CEO.
    • Identify the root cause faster for a selected group of key users
    • Move users to a working server first, for example during an email issue
  • End-user monitoring:
    • Get a user-centric view in the console simply by searching for the user
    • Use filters to look at a broader group of users in a specific environment
  • Compliance monitoring: essential for regulated organizations such as government agencies.
    • Check that approved OS versions and patch levels are in place and that no device is rooted or jailbroken
    • Monitor call and SMS logs to help prevent information leaks
    • Keep track of policy changes and policy violations
  • Transaction monitoring: trace corporate mail traffic and monitor server workload.
  • UEM migration: move users and devices from one UEM platform to another with migration profiles. End users trigger the migration themselves in a step-by-step process, in the self-service portal or in the migration app for iPhone and Android. How this works in practice is described in UEM Migration Without Downtime.
  • Leaner IT operations: one console across the entire ecosystem.
    • Your service desk learns one tool instead of every vendor console
    • New products and new hires get up to speed faster
  • Multi-UEM support: one instance connects several UEM and mail environments and several domains, for example BlackBerry UEM, Ivanti, Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM (formerly VMware) and Microsoft Intune. That helps with
    • international deployments across regions
    • a flexible deployment model, on premises or as a cloud instance
    • mergers and hybrid infrastructures

How ISEC7 SPHERE has grown since 2020

Later releases added features this introduction could not mention yet. Version 20.1.0 brought smart button alerting and new authentication methods (Solution Highlight: ISEC7 SPHERE v20.1.0), followed by ISEC7 SPHERE IoT for smart buttons and security and lifecycle features in version 20.2.0. Today the suite also matches server versions against the NIST National Vulnerability Database, watches certificates and Apple DEP tokens (see Certificate Monitoring with ISEC7 SPHERE) and offers a dedicated dashboard for indigo environments. Why monitoring matters in the first place is the topic of The Need for Monitoring.
