Windows end dates this autumn: what stops on 13 October and 10 November

Microsoft stops updating Windows 11 version 24H2 in the Home and Pro editions on 13 October 2026. The same day Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016, Office 2021 and Office LTSC 2021 reach the end of support, and on 10 November Windows 11 version 23H2 follows for Enterprise and Education.

What matters is the edition, not the version number. A PC on Windows 11 Pro 24H2 gets no security updates after October's Patch Tuesday. The same release on Enterprise or Education keeps receiving them until 12 October 2027. If your reporting groups devices by version or build alone, it will not show that difference.

The 13 October cut-off

  • Windows 11 version 24H2 in Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations and SE: end of updates. Microsoft recommends moving to version 25H2.
  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016: end of extended support. Microsoft points to Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 and offers Extended Security Updates to organisations that need more time.
  • Office 2021 and Office LTSC 2021, along with Project and Visio 2021: end of support, according to Microsoft Lifecycle.
  • Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2: the third year of Extended Security Updates ends.
  • Windows 10 22H2 on ESU: the first commercial ESU year ends. Year two runs until 12 October 2027, and the price doubles compared with year one (Microsoft Learn).
  • Windows Server 2022: only mainstream support ends. Security updates continue under extended support at no extra cost until 14 October 2031.

The 10 November cut-off

Windows 11 version 23H2 in Enterprise, Education, Enterprise multi-session and IoT Enterprise receives its last update on November's Patch Tuesday. Home and Pro on this version are already out of support. Version 25H2 gets updates on Enterprise and Education until 10 October 2028.

What to do, and by when

Before 13 October, split your 24H2 devices by edition and move the Pro machines to 25H2. Anything that cannot move goes on a documented exceptions list. For LTSB 2016 devices the choice is LTSC 2024 or ESU. Count your Office 2021 installations before the deadline. By 10 November, the 23H2 Enterprise and Education devices follow.

ESU buys time but does not replace the migration, and its cost comes on top of the move you will make anyway. That is how we put it in our webcast on Windows 10 and ChromeOS (in German, July 2025). For devices that stay on Windows 10 only because of their hardware, the webcast presents ChromeOS Flex as a third route, although Android apps from the Play Store do not run on it. Our post Solution Highlight: ChromeOS gives the wider picture.

If you run more than one UEM platform, that count is spread across several consoles. ISEC7 SPHERE brings the operating system and patch level of devices and servers from every connected system into one console. Since version 20.9.0 the asset history records every change of operating system version, so you can trace the move to 25H2 device by device. For consulting, integration and day-to-day operation of device management, see our Endpoint Management services. If your own team runs the move, our Microsoft Intune Fundamentals and ChromeOS Administration courses cover the tooling.
